Part 6

We're getting down to short strokes now and we're almost finished.  The cowling will need some extra ventilation cut into it and this is the way that I've set up mine.   A Dremel tool with a 1/4" sanding drum dresses out the slots nicely.  Sand on the inside to remove any excess fiberglass shavings with 100 grit sandpaper. The slots in the sides also provide an easy access to the bottom screws that attach the cowling to the fuselage.  If you want a copy of the cut out templates, write to me through the "Contact Us" section.  Thanks

As usual, the manufacturer provides no information on where the aircraft should be balanced for the initial flights.  This is normal as none of them want to take any responsibility for the flying setup of the plane, so they make no suggestions.  I like to balance mine for the initial flights on the front or center of the wing tube.  A little bit nose heavy in the beginning is also OK.  Find the center of the wingtube and transfer a couple of marks to the flats above the wingtube.  Insert a screw and draw a piece of sting across the mark you have made on the other side of the fuse extending the string all the way past the end of the wing.  A piece of blue tape is placed on the outside of the wing tip edge, and where the string intersects, a mark is made on the tape.  This should be the center of the wingtube at the wing tip edge.  Measuring from the aileron forward the distance appears to be 9 3/8".  I'll make a mark on the other wing tip at this dimension and place my balancing pintles under this mark to balance the aircraft.  I distribute these pintles and if you would like a set, see them by clicking on our Sky Dancers Store Tab.  They make it really easy for one man to balance any large scale plane.  I moved my batteries to the location shown in the photo and secured them with two PureTech Xtreme 5"straps.  These are great straps and provide an ultra-secure mounting for my batteries.   The plane perfectly balanced as shown in the next photo.  Fantastic!!!
