Lite Pilots "Babette" Installation

I've said it before, and I 'll say it again.   You've come this far sparing no expense and your plane's a beauty, so why not have the best pilot???  You just can't get a better pilot for your planes than Lite Pilots.  NO S_ _t.   Well here she is with much deserved fanfare and accolades.  "Babette" will be sitting in the pilots seat of my Aeroworks 150 CC YAK and she sure is a beauty.   I like this pilot because her size is perfect for the plane and the weight is marginal (only 5 oz. in the pro series ) blowing out a lot of those cheap looking foam pilots on the market. Heh, heh, them cheap foamies ain't got Babette's looks either! She's a knockout and kinda' reminds me of Justina.  She's gonna' turn heads wherever she goes and Litepilots.com has outdone themselves on this one with the fine details right down to the real hair.   I'm  going to make sure she gets in plenty of flight time on the YAK.   Many thanks to the great folks at Litepilots.com for their valued  support.  If you want the best pilots on the market, see John or Vicki at Litepilots.com   They've got one to fit every size including a nice selection of pilots for that Warbird you're building.  Check it out.

I took Babette out of the packaging, removed her hair net and fluffed up her hair to see what she looks like.  She's just a gorgeous babe and ready for the cockpit installation.  I purchased a foam board at the local Staples to provide the cockpit bottom and frame for the center instrument panel.  Take some measurements of the canopy inside dimensions and cut the foam board to full length.  Then, this will have to be cut down to two pieces in order to get it into cockpit.  I used the rear section of the cockpit as my layout place for cutting the flooring.

Place Babette on a piece of leftover 3/16 balsa and trace the outline.  Cut the outline and smooth out the balsa with some sandpaper until it fits neatly in the bottom cavity of the model, install a couple of 4-40 blind nuts on the inside for mounting the model,  and glue in place with some epoxy strengthened with micro balloons.  Trace the front and rear center dashboard pieces on a piece of the foam board.  Cut them out with an exacto knife and glue them on to the foam board using 3M Super 77 adhesive spray.

I got out my hot glue gun and glued the top to the front and rear panels of the center instrument console after the spray adhesive dried.  This is an easy job and it went together well.  I then took the reserved front section of the cockpit floor and cut out the opening that I will use to attach the center console. I make it the exact inside width of the center console and just about 3/4" shorter in length.  Glue the front and rear cockpit floors to the foam board pieces that you've already cut out with 3M Super 77 spray adhesive.

After you've cut out the center console mounting in the floor area, tape the console into place using packing tape that has the fiber reinforcement.  This is a lot stronger than regular packing tape and is also a lot easier to get apart later should the need arise.  Trial fit your front and rear floor cockpit pieces and ensure that they mate together nicely.  Spray some 3M Super 77 adhesive to the back of the front dash instrument panel and glue it into place.  I've installed mine sit up about 3/16" higher than the bottom of the cockpit floor.  Test fit the flooring panels now and adjust for good fit as necessary.

Locate the proper position on the underside of the rear cockpit floor panel and glue a couple of 3/4" lite ply squares for reinforcement where you want to mount the pilot. Attach Babette using 2 ea. 4-40 socket head bolts.   Fit both the floor panels and tape them to the canopy using stranded packing tape.  Tape a piece of the packing tape for a handle to the cockpit rear panel and then secure the panel in place.

Well , here she is all ready to Fly!  Fabulous!!!  This one really turned out Greattt!!!   Stay tuned!!
