ARF Build Review-

Aeroworks 100cc YAK 54 QB

Distributed by Aeroworks

Review by "Rockin' Rick"

Part 5

Time to install the tailfeathers now that we've got all the other main parts installed in the fuse and no longer need to rotate it on the cradle.  I assembled the plane and took it outside to set it up for balancing. The Lite Pilot and Virtual Cockpit look really cool on this aircraft. Nice finishing touch.

I balance my planes using a set of pintles that I designed and built myself.  They work extremely well and eliminate any guesswork. Just place them under the wing tips at the suggested CG point and shift your components as necessary.  One person can easily and inexpensively balance a plane.  If you are interested in obtaining a set, contact me through our "Contact Us" tab.  All done balancing?  Time to gas her up, run up the motor in the back yard, and check it for correct throttle curve. That being done,  let's get out to the field and have some fun!

 Summary

I've got to admit, this one was really fun to build.  So much of the tedious and tiring work was already done for us at the factory.  Sure, this plane may cost you a little more than others on the market of the same size, but you got to ask yourself.  How much is my time worth?  What hardware is the other manufacturer supplying with the ARF? You know, I'd rather be flying than spending gobs of time building and I'll honestly tell you that the quality of this manufacture is a cut way above the rest.  Its so easy to build.

My flying partner, Mike Bodiford, got me interested in Aeroworks' planes as he already had the 35% Extra 260 QB.  After this build, I now personally think that you can't go wrong when you purchase one of their aircraft. I'll see you again on our next build, which will be the Aeroworks 42% Extra 260. That'll be the newest addition to my hangar. I'm setting this one up strictly for IMAC competition.  Stay tuned to this frequency.

Rockin' Rick's Overall Build Rating-  9.45 out of a possible 10

Pros-Superior Lightweight Design, concise manual on disk,

Pre-hinged at the factory for ailerons and elevators

Canopy glass installed at the factory. Canopy predrilled and mounts installed.

Cowling predrilled and mounts pre-installed at the factory.  Prefect fit.

SAE Hardware package, all necessary components for the build supplied.

Complete control surface linkage package. Just add your servo extension arms.

Canister muffler ready from the factory-no modifications necessary

Cut outs in fuse for canister installation supplied by manufacturer

Multiple engine installation templates supplied by manufacturer.

Complete landing gear package including wheels supplied by manufacturer.

Wire ties, foam rubber, Velcro, padding, included in kit for components.

Nothing more to buy when assembling this one.

Cons-Can't think of any other than that it could have been supplied with CF Wing and stab tubes.  Too bad that other manufacturers won't take a hint and

get on the same page.   But then, it's a case of marketing. Leave out the

complete hardware package, prebuilds, and make the ARF look less expensive.

It's your money and time, add it up for yourself.
