Part 4

The tailwheel assembly was installed next using the already located and drilled holes in the fuse and rudder.  Man, is this ever an easy plane to build. Remember to put a couple of drops of thin CA in the screw holes and a little medium CA on the screws when assembling.  The front main landing gear was built up as a complete assembly and we'll install it later on after the work in the fuse is finished.  I decided to go ahead and plumb the smoke tank in order to have the initial CG as close as possible when the airplane is finished.  The battery and smoke pump will be added at a later date after flight trials.

I then installed my landing gear assembly with blue locktite on the socket head screws.  A set of MTW TD 75K canisters were employed along with the 50mm drop flex headers secured from DA.  I know that the canister type exhaust adds a little more extra weight than the standard DA mufflers, but more and more fields now have noise abatement regulations in place.  The canister/landing gear cover is put in place now and the fuse removed from the cradle. The cowling, prop and spinner were placed next.  Don't forget to get your choke rod hooked up now when installing the cowling.

The virtual cockpit kit from  wrightrc.com was fitted in the canopy.  These cockpit kits are very easy to build and add only a couple of ounces more to the plane. Kregg Wright is a graphic artist of unparalleled ability and his kits are highly detailed and true to the scale of the aircraft.  John Rivrud's pro series 38-42% "Bob" Lite Pilot from litepilots.com was then added to complete the cockpit. The Pro Series is designed to be extra light and help save weight. Both of these components are highly detailed, scale realistic, and well worth every penny when it comes down to having a truly show worthy aircraft. I highly recommend installing both of these items to give your plane the highest quality finishing touch without adding a lot of unnecessary weight. See my analysis of the full installation in our "Product Reviews" section.  Well, now it's time to get down to brass tacks.
