The Don Lowe Masters Reporter-Rockin' Rick October 6, 2006 Ain't Patty and I arrived at Triple Tree Aerodrome in Woodruff, SC about 9:00 AM. The 2 hour ride from Summerville passed by quickly and before we knew it we were pulling in through the gate. The temperature and winds were just perfect at that time and we were anticipating a great day for flying. I was really looking forward to getting up with some old friends and perhaps, making some new ones. The competition had started and the most contestants were already on the flight line or somewhere close by. Ain't' Patty had never been to Triple Tree before so we took a little tour to see some of Pat Hartness's handiwork and toys. What a great guy and what a great place! I can't think of any one else in the state of South Carolina who has so enthusiastically given so much of himself to model aviation. If you've never been to Triple Tree you just don't know what you're missing. It is one of the most beautiful and complete aerodromes that you'll ever have the pleasure of experiencing. Inside the hangar were quite a variety of planes. Some belonged to Pat but most were owned by other flyers who were either competing or members of the local club. The 3W 37.5% YAK is a really impressive aircraft sporting one really wild paint scheme. Gerhard told us that it was available but you better think about the possibility of 5 figures for this one. The next one is the aircraft that was raffled off at the event. Its a Dalton Aviation Extra 260. And, of course, a few others are mixed in the next photo. Ain't Patty really liked the judges vehicle and said that we ought to get one for us, just to putt around in uptown Summerville. There was something of interest for everyone who came to the event. The grounds are some of the most neatly manicured that I've ever witnessed and litter free. Ought to be that way at every field. Down on the flight line, pilots were getting ready to take their turn as the judges corps gave their undivided attention to each contestant. It's not easy to judge an even such as this, and they surely deserve all the thanks for unselfishly donating their time. Check out the videos in our "Pro Video" Section
